I am a painter, celebrating the rich colors and patterns of indigenous peoples with my vividly colored oil paintings
I have always drawn and painted, and I remain enthralled by the act of painting itself, moving sensuous color around, creating space, form and visual excitement. I work mostly in oils. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin and have practiced and exhibited my work in both the United States and Mexico. I have only recently moved to Santa Cruz, where I paint at the 17th Avenue Studios. I am excited about the art world here.
I have lived in an indigenous village on the Pacific coast of Mexico for much of the past 25 years. This has been wonderful for my art, inspiring a rich color palette and culturally interesting imagery. My recent series of paintings, for example, is based on the vivid colors and patterns in the weavings and embroidery of the Mayas. I visit them often in southern Mexico and the highlands of Guatemala, celebrating their art and culture with my oil paintings.
