Growing up living life by the shore of this Technicolor town should came with a funky soundtrack, subtitles, and patchouli scented incense. My work is a love letter to my home town full of home town pride, sentiment, and freedom. -Cristina Sayers
Cristina- A Santa Cruz native who is also a humble self taught, abstract/collage/mixed media/impasto/acrylic artist. A life long resident os SC, her work is directly influenced by this unique seaside community.
As a child of the 70′s she has fond memories of her experiences with the vibrant local life in and around town. She loved family beach weekends, walking along the deer trail at Hidden Beach, brunch and live jazz at the Cooper house, Polar Bear ice cream, and movie matinees at the Capitola Theater.
Cristina’s work is most often ocean & SC Landscape inspired with subjects of whimsical ocean creatures and other local subjects native to our community. Her paintings are created with a combonation of acrylic paint, local newspaper publications, retired phone books, vintage fruit labels, and other found paper sources. Within the process of mixing, drawing, and selecting positive & patriotic words from selected paper sources, Cristina develops her vision into art.
from 2002-2008, she was able to support and develope her work by commissioned family portraits that were promoted via word of mouth. In 2008, she took a leap of faith and turned “pro”. She applied to and was accepted by galleries in California, Texas, and Arizona.
Cristina is a proud Mother of 4 children. She has 3 daughters, (Jessica, Addison, and Harlow) and on son (Keone). She is also a Grandmother to one grandaughter, Hazel. Her husband of 18 years, Johnny AKA Man Cub, is her patient, loving, and supportive partner. He is a coach of local youth sports and is a Proffessional Frozen Vegetable Pimp by trade.
