My paintings explore the spiritual nature of both the observed and the observer, and I use the ever changing and elusive character of the ocean as the background for my work. I explore ideas and concepts that help me to constantly refine my spiritual vision and love for the sea which I share through my art.
I am a self taught artist who paints in acrylic and mixed mediums. I hope you share the same passion for the ocean and surfing that I do. I live in my home town of Santa Cruz where I enjoy not only painting but photographing flora, fauna, the ocean and a variety of other subjects as well. I try to capture the essence of the ocean and the serenity of the beach in every piece. My paintings are on a variety of materials and often incorporate found objects such as driftwood and sea glass and shells as well as up-cycling reclaimed woods and construction materials for use in art. I am always happy to be commissioned to capture your favorite surf spot or beach as well as possibly other subjects such as pets or plants and flowers.
I am a contemporary painter of “ocean rhythms” uysing primarily acrylics. I began my lifelong relationship to the beauty and mystery of the sea when, less than an hour old, I was taken from the hospital by my Dad to the very edge of the Pacific Ocean near Twin Lakes Beach to await the first sunrise of my new life. Santa Cruz is my permanent home, but my passion for experiencing a deeper connection to the ocean has taken me to multiple locations along the California coast as well as to the Hawaiian Islands. It was during one of these trips to Hawaii that I had an epiphany and decided to pursue my artistic calling. I have exhibited frequently with both group shows and solo presentations in Santa Cruz and have a small but growing list of private collectors.
My paintings explore the dreamlike state one would experience while immersed in the “spirit of the waves” through the bold use of bright colorsand reclaimed materials. My artistic journey has brought me into contact with such internationally known artists as Rob Heeley, Clark Takashima, Richard Fields, and Ashton Howard. Recent examples of Dimitrious Nichols Fine Art can be seen at www.facebook.com/DNicholsArt. Dimitrious can be contacted directly at: firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are interested in commissioning a painting email or send me a private Facebook message. I would love to hear from you. Aloha and be blessed!
