Lisa Undercoffler is an artist and designer who lives and works in the Santa Cruz Mountains with her husband, dog and 2 kitties. She grew up in Connecticut and New York, and was a student of architecture at Rhode Island School of Design. After moving to San Francisco in 1992, Lisa earned her BFA at the California College of the Arts in 2005 with a major in Wood/Furniture. Lisa has also worked extensively as a professional graphic designer.
Always curious about art and craft traditions, she has studied alternative photography processes, metal smithing, gilding, upholstery, ceramics, Old Master painting techniques, encaustics, paper making and knitting.
Lisa’s current work combines digital processes (digital photography, Adobe software, and pigment printing techniques) with analog (painting, encaustics, collage, gilding) and alchemical ones (rust, decayed plant matter, dirt) and has found freedom in the ability to work back and forth between realms.
