Susan Brown

Susan L. Brown has been an artist since her childhood, winning awards as a student in Ohio and in Chicago, at Northwestern University. Moving to CA in 1978, she continued studying drawing and painting at College of San Mateo, Kollage Community School for the Arts and San Jose State, as well as selected painting workshops from leading instructors, including through the Pacific Art League, Palo Alto. She has also taught painting techniques privately and through various city parks and recreation departments.

In the San Francisco Bay Area, Susan’s art has been exhibited at the Hotel California, Palo Alto, CafeĢ Riace Gallery, Palo Alto, Burlingame Art on the Avenue, The Pacific Art League, Palo Alto, and Silicon Valley Open Studios. In December 2011, Susan was invited to represent the United States in the Biennale Exhibition of Contemporary Art, a global exhibition of fine art held in Florence, Italy.

Since moving to Santa Cruz in 2014, she was the first watercolor artist selected for a solo show at the Santa Cruz Pure Water Store gallery. Her art has also been exhibited locally at The Santa Cruz Art League, and as the featured First Friday artist at The Homeless Garden Store, the Felton Feed Store, TrendSetter Boutique and Azhar Studio.

“In my work I try to convey the emotion I feel from my subjects through vivid color and expressive technique, whether it be heirloom tomatoes, a perfect rose, or a day at the Oregon Country Faire. I also enjoy figure drawing and figurative painting, and am now working in acrylics–has bended my mind and opened opportunities for new expression.”
