C.C. Tazio Childress

C.C. TAZIO CHILDRESS  grew up in Oakland California where he was influenced by the Figurative Abstraction and Abstract Expressionist movements happening in the Bay area during the 1950’s.  He recalls even as a youngster, being captivated by the abstract art he saw when exploring the California College of Arts and Crafts (CCAC) which happened to be across the street from his grade school. Childress majored in art and film at Sacramento State University where had the opportunity to study with several of California;s most creative painters and film makers such as Carlos Villa, Robert Nelson, Gladys Nielson, and Bill Allen. In 1974 he received a teaching credential and baccalaureate degree in art.

In recent years Childress has concentrated on abstract painting in acrylic.  His style is usually described as Abstract Expressionism, but is often hard to categorize having unusual elements and images that belie his offbeat humor and cultural insight.  Taz Childress currently maintains his painting studio and residence in the Santa Cruz mountains.
